There are nearly 18,000 businesses in Macomb County. Combined, they employ more than 287,000 people. Big or small, each helps to define Macomb County by the investments they make in their properties and employees and their involvement in charitable projects. And yes, the tax revenues they generate help to keep Macomb County an optimal place to live, learn, work, play and build a business.
Our existing businesses are important! The "Home in Macomb Business Retention Program" provides targeted assistance to help them thrive.
In an effort to maximize our efficiency, retention visits are most often made jointly with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Through these visits, MCPED staff and MEDC account managers have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with business owners to identify assistance needs and gain insights into the forces that shape our economy.
In the course of the typical visit, the retention client provides a description of the product or services of the firm, and describes details of problems or challenges to be addressed. In response, staff will explain the broad range of free and confidential services available to companies, focusing on those that are of immediate relevance to the client. The successful retention visit is one where a relationship has been established, such that when growth opportunities or problems arise in the future, the client’s first call is to the MCPED.
