Counseling

A business plan is necessary for securing financing and also allows you to measure your business’s progress, determine if it’s on track, and make necessary adjustments.

In addition, the MCPED can assist you in identifying access to capital, investment and development incentives such as tax exemptions as well as selecting a site and/or building for your new business.

Information for Employers

If your business has employees, including those who perform services for or receive remuneration from the corporation (e.g. any “owners”), then you have responsibilities to both the state and federal government.

These responsibilities include:

  • city, state, federal and social security taxes
  • immigration law compliance
  • unemployment insurance
  • workers compensation
  • new hire reporting
  • display of required posters

In addition, you are responsible for registering your business with the Federal Government and the State of Michigan as well as obtaining any license required for your industry.

In 2005, the Macomb County SBTDC assisted 6,781 clients through training seminars, information requests, and counseling sessions. The results: our clients created 1093 new jobs, retained 837 jobs, and obtained over $126 million in loans.
