Filing Military Discharge Papers

It is the responsibility of the service person to file copies of the original documents at the Clerk's Office at the time of separation from the military.

Where to File


File copies of the original documents at the Macomb County Clerk's Offices at 40 North Main (first floor of the Macomb County Court Building) in Downtown Mount Clemens.  CLICK HERE for directions to the Macomb County Clerk's Office.

  • Military discharge papers (DD214)

  • Completed documents with original signatures

How To Obtain A Certified Copy Of A Macomb County Military Discharge

Macomb County military discharge records are not available for viewing, but may be purchased by the discharged military person or beneficiaries only. Heirs must provide proof of death and evidence of relationship. Records are on file where the military personnel resided at the time of discharge.

Requests can be made in person, by mail or fax (with a credit card).

If unsure of where a discharge was filed, write to National Personnel Records Center, Military Records Branch, 9700 Page Boulevard, St. Louis, MO 63132.

Request A Copy In Person


To request a certified copy of your own military discharge, picture identification (driver's license) must be provided.  Visit the Macomb County Clerk's Offices at 40 North Main (first floor of the Macomb County Court Building) in Downtown Mount Clemens.  CLICK HERE for directions to the Macomb County Clerk's Office.

Request A Copy By Mail


Write a letter stating the required information, and enclose a check or money order. Mail to Macomb County Clerk, Attn: Military Discharges, 40 North Main, Mount Clemens, MI 48043.
