FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: BIRTH CERTIFICATE IS EASY TO GET FOR PASSPORT FAIR It is easy to get a certified copy of your birth certificate for the U.S. Postal Service’s passport fair to be held at the Macomb County Public Library, 16480 Hall Road, Clinton Twp., between 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 7. Passports will be required for travel to Canada and Mexico in the near future and proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, is required to get a passport. Sabaugh makes it easy to get a birth certificate. You can request a Macomb County birth certificate in person, by mail, fax or Internet. Order forms are available by calling 888-99-CLERK for document 3010 or at http://www.macombcountymi.gov/clerksoffice. The cost is $10 for the first copy and $3 for additional copies. If you absolutely, positively need your birth record overnight, Sabaugh’s office will provide this service for an additional fee. Birth records are not public records. Generally, only a person whose name appears on the record may obtain a copy. A photo ID is required. Sabaugh has a record of modernizing the clerk’s office. She partnered with the Social Security Administration to create an antifraud system allowing real time electronic verification of birth certificates. She was the first county clerk to accept credit card payments, and she put public Macomb County death records and business registrations online. She also created the state’s first online concealed weapons permit system, letting CCW permit applicants track their progress. ### |
