Richmond Township is located in the northeast corner of Macomb County and surrounds portions of the Village of Memphis and the City of Richmond. The Township is home to a population who primarily reside in single-family homes on large lots fronting the Township’s main thoroughfares.
The overwhelming majority of the land is used for agricultural activities with single-family homes and vacant land making up the only other significant land uses. Locally grown cash crops of wheat, corn, soy beans and alfalfa comprise the majority of Macomb County’s annual agricultural exports. A greater number of building permits have been issued in recent years than in the past, but Richmond Township is expected to experience slow growth due to its location north of the urbanizing portions of the County.
