Located in northwestern Macomb County, Washington Township contains the unincorporated villages of Washington and Mt. Vernon as well as the southern half of the Village of Romeo.
It is characterized by large tracts of agricultural and vacant land with single-family homes making up the second largest segment. The largest concentrations of development lie south of Twenty-nine Mile Road and west of M-53. In the past, the Township has grown relatively slowly, but over the last decade the community has experienced a large increase in population and the number of new housing units. The most outstanding feature in the Township is Stony Creek Metropark. Opened in the summer of 1964, the park extends over 4,400 acres of rolling, hilly countryside and inland lakes primarily in Macomb County.
