Irene Kepler was elected in November 2008 to a two-year term representing the residents of Roseville. The 2009-10 term is her first on the Board of Commissioners.
Kepler’s priorities include bringing jobs to Macomb County and helping seniors and families experiencing effects of the economic and housing crisis to connect with programs which will assist them in avoiding foreclosure and homelessness.
As a social worker in Roseville Community Schools, she worked with children between the ages of 3 and 16. She left the school system in 2006 for Tanzania, where she opened a non-profit organization serving orphans and HIV-infected villages. She continues to visit and support her village.
Kepler’s career in politics began when she was elected as precinct delegate in 2000. In 2001, she became the youngest person ever elected to Roseville City Council. She was re-elected in 2005.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Social Work from Central Michigan Universiy in 2000, having spent part of 1999 studying abroad at Lancaster University in England. Kepler earned her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan in 2002.
Kepler, 31, lives in Roseville and is a graduate of Regina High School in Warren. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her family, especially her three nephews.
