William Crouchman was elected in January 2007 by fellow members of the Macomb County Board of Commissioners to serve a two-year term as chair. Now serving his second two-year term as a commissioner, Crouchman was first elected in 2004 by voters in southern St. Clair Shores to be their representative on the County Board.

Crouchman’s first elective office was as a St. Clair Shores municipal court judge. His first four-year term began in 1973 and his second term was extended by state law to 1982 as the city switched to a district court system. He was elected to six-year terms as a 40th District Court judge in 1982, 1988 and 1994.

After leaving that office, Crouchman was a visiting judge, a general practice lawyer and a labor arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association.

He is former president of the Macomb County District Judges Association, a former director of the St. Clair Shores Chamber of Commerce, past president of the St. Clair Shores Kiwanis Club, and past director of the Foundation for Educational Excellence in St. Clair Shores.

Crouchman has a bachelor’s degree in political science, business and history from Western Michigan University. He graduated from the Detroit College of Law.

Crouchman, 63, is a lifelong resident of St. Clair Shores. He and his wife Paula have five daughters and one son.
