Leon Drolet was elected in November 2006 to represent the residents of District 26 in southern Macomb Township. The 2007-08 term is his first as the representative for District 26, although he was elected twice previously as the County Commissioner for District 16 in northern Clinton Township.

Drolet, a Republican, previously served on the County Board from January 1998 to March 2001, when he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in a special election to fill the vacancy left by the death of Rep. Janet Kukuk.

He held the District 33 State House seat through 2006. Term limits prevented him from running again. He moved from Clinton Township to Macomb Township and ran for the District 26 seat on the County Board.

For 20 years, Drolet has been an anti-tax advocate and a champion of individual rights and smaller government. He was statewide chair of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, the successful November 2006 ballot proposal to eliminate the use of race and gender preferences in university admissions and government hiring or contracting.

Drolet has been a leader of the conservative caucus in the State House, supporting legislation strengthening property rights for citizens and providing tax cuts to individuals and businesses.

Drolet is a founding member of the Michigan House of Representatives’ Taxpayer Protection Caucus and is involved with Young Americans for Freedom. He is a member of the Republican Liberty Caucus and is former chairman of both the Macomb Coalition of Republicans and the Macomb Term Limits organization.

Drolet’s involvement in the community includes volunteering with the Clinton River Cleanup and the Clinton Township Goodfellows.  His past work experience includes retail management and jobs with several former state representatives.

Drolet, 39, studied Political Science at Oakland University and is a graduate of the Institute for Humane Studies.

Drolet, who is single, enjoys football, travel and spending time with his family.
