How to Apply for Official Michigan Green School Status

 

• 1. If you are a school located in Macomb County, please reference the Green Status Points and Emerald and Evergreen Status Points lists for the activities which count.
• 2. You must choose 10 of the activities from the criteria listed on the Green Status Points list to apply for initial Green designation. Fill out the Activity #1-10 section of the application with descriptions of how your school participated in these points.
• 3. You may opt to choose additional activities from either the Green Status Points or Emerald and Evergreen Status Points lists if you want to apply for a designation higher than Green.
• 4. If you are a previously-certified Green School, you may fill out the Activity #1-10 section of the application with descriptions of:

a. How your school is continuing the programs and activities by which you achieved Green Status last year; or

b. Your participation in 10 activities from the Green Status Points list that are different from last year; or

c. A combination of previous and new activities.

Remember, the first ten points of every application MUST be from the Green Status Points list since those were written in the law establishing the program.

 

• 5. If you would like to apply for Emerald or Evergreen status, you may complete the Activity #11-15 and Activity #16-20 sections of the application with descriptions of activities from either the Green Points Status or Emerald and Evergreen status lists or a combination of both.
• 6. Fill out Application completely and be sure to include details and contact information.
• 7. Applications must be submitted via email, postal mail or inter-school mail by March 1, 2010 to:

• 8. Include photos and any materials which support your participation in and completion of activities.
• 9. Consider submitting electronic photos for publication on our website.
