MACOMB COUNTY HOSTS
21ST ANNUAL OLDER AMERICAN FESTIVAL

Macomb County, Michigan……The Macomb County Board of Commissioners along with the Department of Senior Services will host the 21st annual Older American Festival on Wednesday, June 23rd from noon until 4:00 p.m. The festival will be held at Freedom Hill County Park, located on Metropolitan Parkway (16 Mile Road) between Schoenherr and Utica Roads. Gates will open at 11:20 a.m. The theme for this year’s event is “Roaring 20’s.”
Offered to Macomb County residents age 60 and older, the day features free box lunches for the first 3,000 people, special treats offered at discount prices, and dancing to big band entertainment. Free health tests will be available and the Exhibitors’ Tent will feature information about programs and services. The Bingo Tent, everyone’s favorite, will accept new players every 45 minutes.
Michigan State University Extension will be on hand again this year with exhibits and information on horticulture, lawn care and additional programs of interest to seniors. Also, as an expression of appreciation for our armed forces (both past and present), the highlight of the day will be a parade to honor these heroic individuals.
Joan Flynn, Chairwoman of the Macomb County Senior Citizen Services Committee stated, “We are pleased to host this event for Macomb County senior citizens once again. It provides them an opportunity to meet their county commissioner, obtain health screens and useful information, all while enjoying themselves in a festive atmosphere.”
