MACOMB COUNTY FLOOD VICTIMS ELIGIBLE FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE

Macomb County, Michigan…… Macomb County officials have just received word that on June 30, 2004, President Bush declared a major disaster for the State of Michigan, including Macomb County. This declaration has triggered the release of federal funds to help county residents who incurred damage from the floods that occurred in the county on May 20-24, 2004.

Macomb County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Nancy M. White declared Macomb County in a state of emergency on May 24, 2004. White and Governor Jennifer M. Granholm toured flood-ravaged areas of the county on May 25, 2004. Granholm subsequently requested federal assistance for the county from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“I am delighted with the declaration!,” said White. “It only happened because we had the full cooperation and involvement of our Governor, our federal representatives and local officials. There was also a lot of hard work by our Emergency Management Department.”

Residents and businesses that suffered flood damage must call FEMA to file a claim in order to be eligible for federal assistance. The toll free number to make a claim is 1-800-621-FEMA(3362), TTD 1-800-462-7585.

Persons making a claim should be prepared to provide FEMA with the following information:

§	Social Security number
§	Description of losses
§	Financial information
§	Directions to the damaged property

Individuals filing claims will receive a phone call from an inspector representing FEMA to schedule an appointment for an inspection. There is no fee for the inspection, and the inspection results will be provided to FEMA. If you are determined to be eligible for assistance, you will receive notification from FEMA within 7-10 days.

Questions regarding the application process, damages covered under this declaration or any other concerns regarding the process must be directed to FEMA at 1-800 621-3362, TDD 1-800-462-7585.
