FEMA DISASTER
RECOVERY CENTER OPENS IN ROMEO

The Macomb County Office of Emergency Management announced today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has opened an office in Macomb County to assist local residents with filing damage claims as a result of the flooding that occurred this spring.

The Region 2N FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) is located at Amanda Moore Elementary School, 209 Dickerson Street, Romeo, MI 48065 (2 blocks north of 32 Mile Road, just west of the M-53, Van Dyke Freeway). Hours of operation are from 9:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

County Commissioner Don Brown (R-District 13) stated, “I appreciate the fact that FEMA has opened an office in Romeo, thereby allowing our residents to conveniently seek assistance for the great losses that they experienced due to the recent flooding.”

The Disaster Recovery Center is intended to serve the residents and business owners of Macomb, Oakland and St. Clair counties that were affected by the flooding that occurred May 20 –24, 2004. Anyone utilizing the center MUST have already called the FEMA Help Line at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) and registered with the agency. The DRC is intended to assist pre-registered individuals in completing their paperwork, and answering any subsequent questions regarding their claim.

The deadline for applying for flood assistance is August 30, 2004. To register for assistance, contact FEMA at 1-800-621-3362 to initiate the process. Any questions regarding the Disaster Recovery Center and/or the application process can also be answered by calling the 1-800 number.
