Great Blue Heron
Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development is pleased to join the
Six Rivers Regional Land Conservancy in hosting “Exploring our Shores; Six Rivers and the Great lakes” at Metro Beach on May 4, 2009
The event will be the first-ever annual meeting for the newly merged conservation group formed when Oakland Land Conservancy and Macomb Land Conservancy decided to join forces and tackle water quality and conservation issues on a more regional basis.
The highlight of the event is keynote speaker John Austin, Director of the Great Lakes Economic Initiative for the Brookings Institution. Austin is the author of several path-breaking reports on the economic vitality of Michigan and the Great Lakes states, including “Healthy Waters, Strong Economy: The Benefits of Restoring the Great Lakes Ecosystem.” He also co-authored “Revitalizing Michigan Cities,” a pre-cursor to Governor Granholm’s “Cool Cities” initiative.
The evening will also feature lively opportunities for networking, scrumptious local treats, live music, inter-active exhibits and a special dedication of the James B. And Ann V. Nicholson Nature Center.
