Interior of new expansion

Futuramic Tool and Engineering is expanding.

Rising on the corner of 10 Mile Road and Hoover in Warren is a 19,000 square foot addition to Futuramic Tool and Engineering.

Diana Kolakowski, Economic Development Director for the city, informs us that the current development is the third investment that Futuramic has made in the city in as many years.  “Since 2006, the company has invested nearly $7 million in our city and created another 19 jobs.  They are a shining example of how a company that is almost entirely automotive can diversify its market.  As opposed to shrinking and closing like some others, they continue to expand.”

Founded in 1955, the company built a solid reputation as a full-service design and build supplier for the automotive industry.  For years, its work was almost exclusively for the Ford Motor Company.

When Ford changed its business model and began to process these services internally, Futuramic was forced to examine how its competencies could be matched with another industry.  They identified the aerospace industry as one with growth potential and hired its first aircraft tooling salesman 11 years ago, and have been evolving and thriving ever since. Futuramic counts Boeing, Lockheed Martin and Air Bus as major clients.

Company president Bob Stephanoff took the helm at just about the same time but has been with the company since 1964.  Says he, “I began here as an apprentice and have worked my way up the ranks ever since.”

Ever watchful of market trends, Stephanoff also seized opportunities to adapt its capabilities to serve the defense industry.  In nearly five years, Futuramic has added an impressive list of Tier I suppliers to its client base.

The addition will bring Futuramic’s total footprint to 140,000 square feet and its number of employees to 144.  “Many of our employees have been with us for decades and are constantly aware of how fortunate we are in light of how some others are faring these days.  We really have a lot to celebrate at our next ribbon cutting ceremony.”
