Automotive Career Transition Center (ACTC) in Warren

Chrysler Technology Training Center

Matching job openings with able employees

A first-of-its-kind resource for employers and the unemployed arrived in town in October when the Macomb-St. Clair Workforce Development Board opened the doors of the Automotive Career Transition Center (ACTC) in Warren.

A full service MichiganWorks! office with a twist, ACTC  propels the agency’s mission to improve the quality of the workforce and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of Macomb and St. Clair county employers.  Located within the UAW-Chrysler National Training Center on East Nine Mile Road, the center is focused on retraining displaced automotive workers and assisting them in finding employment.

Like all Michigan Works! Offices, the ACTC provides free services for employers as well as those seeking work.

For employers, the center has access to the resumes of more than one million candidates with all levels of education and employment experience.  It operates a business resource center and can assist with applicant screening and provide subsidized on-the-job training and training support.

For the unemployed, a whole host of services is available, including aptitude testing and career transition assistance, resume preparation and employment seeking skills.  The ACTC also offers workshops that range from interview techniques to family budgeting to stress management.

The ability to bring the needs of the two together depends upon the relationships that the ACTC is able to establish and build throughout the region.  Says Bill Good, one of five Business Consultants tasked with making these important connections, “In this economy, it is difficult to fathom that good jobs are going unfilled but it is true.  I want to work directly with companies that have vacancies and help fill them with qualified, and if necessary, newly trained employees.  At the same time, I am very committed to helping the job seekers that I work with secure positions that aptly match their skills and abilities.”
