M-59 Corridor Business Association takes next step

The M-59 Corridor Business Association has moved one step closer to formalizing the organization as a legal entity.  Articles of Incorporation will be filed with the State of Michigan and a committee is working to finalize a set of organizational bylaws.  This comes after several months of discussion and work on the part of key stakeholders to determine the mission, organizational structure and course of action for the association over the next 6 to 12 months.

The M-59 Corridor Business Association first began meeting in July of 2007 under the leadership of John Carlo, President of John Carlo Inc. and Stephen Cassin, Director of MCPED.   According to Cassin, “Our Department has learned through past projects that the key to success lies in cultivating strong public-private partnerships. This group is the perfect example of just such collaboration.  Our hope is that by working together, we can create something truly unique that provides value to our businesses, residents and visitors to Macomb County.”

Since its inception, the group has focused on ways to improve the corridor while raising its profile as an entertainment destination. Its mission is:  “To engage in activities which will promote, improve and enhance the growth and economic development of business, business networking, investment and reinvestment along the area of the M-59 Corridor within the County of Macomb.”

The association has identified two distinct tasks to accomplish in its formative year.  The first will be to develop a branding and marketing strategy.  The second will be to address physical issues along the corridor such as wayfinding, landscaping and congestion relief.

According to John Carlo, “The corridor has so many unique assets, we want to ensure that it continues to attract new visitors and investment. There is something for everyone here; from a day of shopping in our 450+ shops, to an evening of dining, theater and drinks.”

Next steps for the association are to select a Board of Directors to govern the operations of the committee and to form two committees to accomplish the identified tasks of marketing and physical improvements.
