Stephen Cassin is named Automation Alley Member of the Year!

The Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development is proud to announce that executive director Steve Cassin was named Automation Alley “Member of the Year” at the organization’s 8th Annual Awards Gala on September 12, 2008.

Originally launched as an Oakland County initiative in 1999, Automation Alley provides distinct advantages for more than 950 members throughout its eight-county service area.   In little more than a decade, “the Alley” has become a driving force for advancing regional prosperity through business attraction, exporting assistance, workforce development and technology acceleration.

Each year, Automation Alley honors local businesses and community leaders for their efforts to advance technology based business in the region.  Awards are presented in eight categories:   Non-profit Organization, Emerging Technology Company, Technology Company, Educational Program, Member of the Year, Emerging Leader of the Year, CEO of the Year and Legend CEO.

Macomb County became a member of Automation Alley at the urging of Cassin in 2003.  In fact, Macomb County was the first county – other than Oakland – to become part of this powerful organization which helped to lead the way for other municipalities to get involved in an official capacity.

Now a member of its Board of Directors, Cassin also serves on various boards and initiatives including the Government Affairs Committee, International Business Services Advisory Council and the Workforce Development Committee.   Under Cassin’s direction, the department has participated in several trade missions and helped to host the first-ever Automation Alley Global Trade Mission for high school students held at the Macomb Intermediate School District offices in April.

Cassin was also instrumental in the opening of an Automation Alley satellite office in the County Administration Building to provide greater access to Macomb County businesses that want to take advantage of the services they offer.

Says Ken Rogers, Automation Alley Executive Director, “The winners reflect what Southeast Michigan is all about – entrepreneurship, collaboration and greatness.  Each of our award winners is a positive force that is leading the way for Southeast Michigan’s new technological economy.  Automation Alley is proud to support and recognize Steve for his efforts to ensure that the region thrives and is a great place to do business.”
