Planning and environmental services area

The Department is actively involved in the planning and development of pedestrian trails and connectors throughout the county.

The PES Area conducts Master Plan reviews for communities in and adjoining Macomb County, in accordance with all requirements set forth in the State of Michigan planning statutes.

SPARC aims to ignite economic development in Macomb County communities. This new program is designed to help communities "get in shape" with regard to their development review process.

The Gratiot Avenue Access Management Initiative is a transportation and land use project uniting regional transportation stakeholders and Macomb County Communities along Gratiot Avenue.

The department provides the public with has access to a wealth of census information, SEMCOG data, reports and data sets for Macomb County and its municipalities.

The PES Area is undertaking Phase I of an initiative discussing the community planning implications of the upcoming demographic shift of aging baby boomer residents.

The Macomb County Department of Planning & Economic Development has been busy assisting with environmentally sound land use applications that employ an investment into our long-range future.

The Planning and Environmental Services Area is a resource for information on regional efforts to promote and protect environmental protection regulations and education. PES also has developed a number of resources and tools designed to aid local municipalities in making sound planning and development decisions in relation to our natural environment.

The PES Area provides planning expertise and assistance to communities, as specifically requested, regarding general elements of community planning.

In our continuous effort to support Macomb County's destinations and economic generators, the PES Area, in conjunction with the Economic Development Services Area, provides advisory services to County downtowns and corridors to help implement physical and economic development initiatives.
The Historic Commission’s mission is to procure, protect, preserve, and promote the historical resources and legacy of Macomb County.

The Department is developing series of diversity brochures that highlight many of the cultures currently living and working in Macomb County.

The PES Area is actively involved with a number of partnerships and initiatives ranging from farm land and open space preservation to natural resources conservation.
