Commissioner Flynn is married to John Adleman and is the mother of seven children: Patrick, Margaret, Michael, Mark, Ann, Mary and Matthew.  She has 14 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and 1 great granddaughter.  She earned a Bachelor Degree in General Studies (minor in Human Resources; concentration in Labor Studies) from Oakland University, and has taken courses toward a Master Degree at Central Michigan University. She is a Certified Manager from the Institute of Professional Managers, a Dale Carnegie graduate and a Competent Toastmaster. She has received Certificates of Achievement from National Management Association in both Supervisory Skills and Advanced Management.

Commissioner Flynn is a member of the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC), the National Association of Counties (NACO), delegate to the Macomb County Area Agency On Aging 1-B, Community Mental Health Commission, Macomb Coalition for Emergency Shelter, Macomb Community Action Advisory Board, and the immediate past chair of the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG).

Commissioner Flynn remains involved in the community by serving as a member of the De La Salle Collegiate Dads Club, Economic Club of Detroit, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Eight Mile Boulevard Association, Coalition for the Homeless, and the Warren Crime Commission.  She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Warren Symphony Orchestra and Warren Senior Citizen Advisory Board.
