Susan Doherty was re-elected in November 2008 to represent the residents of District 5 in north-central Warren. The 2009-2010 term is her fourth on the County Board. Doherty, a Democrat, has a well-established reputation for her support of senior citizen issues, homeless causes and people who are disadvantaged. She has been personally involved with the Warren-Center Line Senior Connection, volunteers with MCREST through her church and is a registered candidate and past donor for the National Bone Marrow Donor Program through the Red Cross.

She has considerable experience serving on public boards and commissions. She is on the board of the Macomb Health Plan and a member of the Wilkerson Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization, Macomb County Democratic Party, 12th District Democratic Party and the Warren-Center Line Democrats.

In the past, Susan has served as vice chair of the Warren Police and Fire Retirement Commission; vice chair of the Macomb County Health Care Retirement Board, member of the St. Thomas Lutheran Church Council, and Macomb County Community Mental Health board.

Doherty, 41, is a pension specialist spending most of her career administering benefits for employees of General Motors and Delphi corporations.

She has a bachelor’s degree in Social Science-Employment Relations from Michigan State University and is a graduate of Charles Stewart Mott High School in Warren.

Doherty and her husband Richard live in Warren. They have three children.

“I look forward to serving the residents of my district as well as the entire county in the coming term.  My goal has always been to bring practical and reasonable solutions to the issues facing this county; keeping lines of communication open as much as possible.  These objectives are especially important in these trying times” said Commissioner Doherty.
