Welcome to Emergency Management

Anticipating the worst is the job of Macomb County's Office of Emergency Management, the organization responsible for planning and coordinating the response and recovery actions to any emergency situation or Homeland Security threat that may occur in Macomb County.

The department ensures the efficient utilization of county, local and volunteer resources during periods of emergency and disaster events, and discharges county responsibilities as directed by the Michigan Emergency Management Act (P.A. 390, 1990).  This coordination is conducted within the Macomb County Emergency Operations Center. The Operations Center is charged with the responsibility of coordinating the response to natural and/or man-made disasters by providing county and local officials with a place to assemble to coordinate their emergency efforts.

In an effort to help citizens with their emergency preparedness planning, the Office of Emergency Management has developed a booklet that is beneficial to the home and business owner.  A free copy of this booklet may be requested by calling 469-5270 or for a large number of books, simply drop by the office, Monday thrugh Friday, to pick up multiple copies. The Office of Emergency Management is located in the Old County Building (10 North Main, Mt. Clemens) on the first floor.

The Office of Emergency Management also organizes periodic workshops and exercises for local police, fire, damage assessment, health and safety personnel. These practice sessions prepare emergency personnel for action during a real crisis. Such exercises help participants identify the strengths and, more importantly, the weaknesses of their emergency response plans. The best time to gain such knowledge is before an actual event occurs.

National Preparedness Month

The Macomb County Office of Emergency Management will be hosting a Family Emergency Preparedness event at the Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights on Saturday, September 27, 2008.  The purpose of this event will be to offer information that the citizen and business owner can use to develop emergency preparedness practices, both at home or in their place of business.  Various county departments, along with police and fire department personnel from many of our local jurisdictions and other safety and health related organizations have signed up to participate in this day long event. Indoor and outdoor displays will reflect the theme of "Be Ready, Be Prepared", so grab the whole family and plan to spend the day at Lakeside Mall.
