West Nile Virus Monitoring

The Macomb County Health Department monitors for the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) during the mosquito season, June through September, by trapping and testing mosquitoes on a weekly basis.

In addition, the Health Department keeps track of dead birds, belonging to the corvid family (crows and blue jays), reported by residents. This information is used as a potential sign of the presence of WNV and to help direct mosquito trapping activities.

Reporting a Dead Crow or Blue Jay

From April through September, any crow or blue jay found dead in Macomb County can be reported to the Health Department, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., by calling the:

Mt. Clemens Health Center at 586-469-5236
