The Macomb County Health Department monitors for the presence of West Nile Virus (WNV) during the mosquito season, June through September, by trapping and testing mosquitoes on a weekly basis.
In addition, the Health Department keeps track of dead birds, belonging to the corvid family (crows and blue jays), reported by residents. This information is used as a potential sign of the presence of WNV and to help direct mosquito trapping activities.
