Macomb County Health Department Medical Reserve Corps

 

Mission

The Macomb County Health Department MRC (MCHD-MRC) mission is to strengthen the community by recruiting and training non-medical and medical volunteers that can be ready and able to provide organized assistance to the Health Department and surrounding communities in the event of a county-wide public health emergency, large scale disaster, terrorist event or disease outbreak.

 

Benefits

Volunteering for the MCHD-MRC may provide opportunities for:

  • Free preparedness training

  • Volunteer opportunities at the County Animal Shelter and Health Department Events

  • Participation in emergency drills

  • Assisting during County-wide emergencies

There are many other volunteer opportunities in Macomb County that be right for you.  You can further help your community prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.  Everyone has something to offer.  Visit the following web sites to find other volunteer opportunities near you.

  • Citizen Corps - Partner programs and affiliate organizations offer local opportunities for individuals to get involved in their community to support local emergency responders, disaster relief, and community safety.

  • Michigan Volunteer Registry  - Seeks people with all skill levels and experiences. Those who register agree to be contacted should their area of expertise be needed during a natural or public health emergency or exercise. Once notified, volunteers will determine their availability to assist.

  • American Red Cross (Southeastern Michigan)

  • Civil Air Patrol - Civil Air Patrol Members are actively involved in community efforts in emergency management.

  • Corporation for National and Community Service - Join one of three major community service programs -- Senior Corps, for ages 55 and older; AmeriCorps, an opportunity to receive education awards that help finance college or pay back student loans; and Learn & Serve America, which allows children to participate in service-learning activities.

  • Senior Corps Connects people over 55 years of age with volunteer opportunities.

  • Student Volunteer Service - Offers high school and college students a chance to acquire training through volunteer services in the federal government. Students can explore careers, obtain academic credit, and enhance their work experience.

  • United Way for Southeastern Michigan

  • Volunteer Match - A clearinghouse of volunteer opportunities.
