Judge Viviano was elected as Macomb County Probate Judge to serve the regular term beginning January 1, 1993. He served in the Juvenile Division of the Probate Court for two (2) years and in the Mental Division of the Probate Court for three (3) years. On January 1, 1998 the Michigan Supreme Court assigned him to the newly created Family Division of the Circuit Court. He was re-elected as Macomb County Probate Judge to serve the regular term beginning on January 1, 1999. He was elected to the newly created Macomb County Circuit Judge to serve the eight (8) year term beginning January 1, 2003. He continues to serve in the Family Court. The Supreme Court has appointed Judge Viviano to serve as Chief Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit beginning January 1, 2005. He was admitted to practice law on January 9, 1962. He was an attorney for the Legal Aid Bureau of Detroit from August 1963 to December 1965. He then served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney to April 1974. Finally, Judge Viviano engaged in the private practice of law after leaving the Prosecutor's Office until he began serving as a Probate Judge. He received a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Detroit Law School in June 1961. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Michigan State University in June 1957 and High School Diploma from De La Salle in June 1953. He has resided in Michigan all his life and in Macomb County for the last forty (40) years. He is married and with his wife Alice are the parents of seven (7) children. Judge Viviano belongs to many community and charitable organizations. He is a member of the Michigan Bar Association, the Macomb County Bar Association, Director of the S.M.I.L.E. program of the Circuit Court, March of Dimes Executive Committee and on the Board of Directors of the Catholic Services of Macomb. He has served in the Michigan Probate Judges Association, Juvenile Law and Adoption Committee, Children's Charter of the Courts of Michigan, Inc., Clinton Valley Little League Coach, Chippewa Valley Board of Education, past-president of Ottawa Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization, Base Community Council-Selfridge ANG Base, and the Michigan Task Force on Youth Gang Violence. |
