How much does it cost to get a CCW?

The application kit is free. The fee to have the application processed including fingerprinting is $105.00. Methods of payment accepted: cash, check, money order and credit cards. Make checks or money orders payable to: Macomb County Clerk.

Where can I obtain a Concealed Pistol License Application Kit?

The Concealed Pistol License Application Kit is available at your local Police Department, the Macomb County Sheriff's Department, or the Macomb County Clerk's Office. The CCW Licensing Board Office is conveniently located in the Macomb County Clerk's Office (first floor of the Circuit Court Bldg.) at 40 N. Main in downtown Mount Clemens. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Where do I get fingerprinted?

Fingerprinting must be done within one week from the day the application is accepted at the County Clerk’s Office. After your application is accepted, go to the Records Department of the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office at 43565 Elizabeth Road in Mount Clemens. The cost of the fingerprinting is included in the $105.00 application fee.

(Please note: Do not go to a local police department for fingerprinting. The pre-printed fingerprint card will not be accepted. Prints will be done electronically.)

Who is required to take training?

Training is required for all new applicants and any renewal applicants that had a CCW prior to July 1, 2001, and applicants renewing for the first time after July 1, 2001.

Who is excluded from training?

The training required is waived for an applicant who is a retired peace officer. Proof of retirement is required at the time of application.

The training requirement for an active duty law enforcement officer is to present a letter on department stationary indicating that you have met the necessary training requirements and/or qualifications and is in good standings with the department.

Where do I go for training?

Call the National Rifle Association (NRA) or an affiliated club at 1-800-672-3888 and ask to be directed to the Education & Training Department.

How do I obtain a temporary permit?

A temporary permit request can be placed at the time the application is submitted to the County Clerk’s office. If this is a job related requirement, a letter from your employment will be required or a typed or written personal letter from the applicant to include the purpose for a temporary permit.

What are the requirements for the quality passport photo?

The quality passport photo must have a white or off-white background, taken within six months prior to application, in street attire without a hat or dark glasses. CLICK HERE to see an example.  The picture must be capable of withstanding a mounting temperature of 225 degrees Fahrenheit, 107 degrees Celsius.

As an added service, CCW applicants are now able to get their passport photos at the CCW office (cost: $15). Photos can also be taken at your local Post Office, Kinko's, or any other establishment that offers passport photos.

What is the status of my CCW application?

The application process takes about 6 weeks. Background investigations with local police agencies and the federal government are the most time consuming. Once that process is completed, new applicants will be scheduled to appear in front of the Concealed Weapon Licensing Board. If you are a renewal applicant and the background investigation does not show anything, your permit will be mailed to you.

What happens if I lose my CCW permit?

Call the Clerk's Office at 586-469-5749 for instructions on having another permit re-issued. The re-issue fee is $10.00 and the permit will be available the next business day after 3:00 p.m.

What happens if I move WITHIN Macomb County after I receive my CCW permit?

The permit is still valid until it expires, but you are required to have your current address updated with the county in which your permit was issued.

What happens if I move OUT of Macomb County (still within the state of Michigan) after I receive my CCW permit?

The permit is still valid until it expires. After expiration, you would apply in the county in which you reside.
