GOP urged to end clerk lawsuit

I was recruited by the Michi-gan Republican Party in a law-suit of Macomb County Clerk Carmella Sabaugh.

The state party wants to stop clerks from mass mailing absent voter application forms (not ballots) to seniors for the presidential election. I want to make it clear that I removed my name from this lawsuit. I now support Sabaugh's efforts to increase voter turnout, and I urge my party to end its lawsuit.

Clerks should do everything they can to increase voter participation. For years, many clerks mass mailed AV applications to seniors. If the GOP wins the lawsuit at the court of appeals, this might be the first presidential election seniors will not automatically be sent an AV application.

I oppose the Republican lawsuit that would make it harder for seniors to vote because it makes it look like Republicans are afraid of the voters. I want the GOP to end the lawsuit because it is costing county taxpayers money in legal fees as Sabaugh defends senior voting rights.

I would rather have the Re-publican Party spend money in support of our candidates than
in suppressing the vote.
