Training is required for all new applicants and any renewal applicants that had a CCW prior to July 1, 2001, and applicants renewing for the first time after July 1, 2001.
The training required is waived for an applicant who is a retired peace officer. Proof of retirement is required at the time of application.

A temporary permit request can be placed at the time the application is submitted to the County Clerk’s office. If this is a job related requirement, a letter from your employment will be required or a typed or written personal letter from the applicant to include the purpose for a temporary permit.
The application process takes about 12 weeks. Background investigations with local police agencies and the federal government are the most time consuming. Once that process is completed, new applicants will be scheduled to appear in front of the Concealed Weapon Licensing Board. If you are a renewal applicant and the background investigation does not show anything, your permit will be mailed to you.
Call the Clerk's Office at 586-469-5749 for instructions on having another permit re-issued. The re-issue fee is $10.00. In addition, the Clerk charges a $15 E-photo fee, as authorized by the Macomb County Board of Commissioners. Applicants who provide their own compliant photo are not required to pay the photo fee. The new permit will be available the next business day after 3:00 p.m.
The permit is still valid until it expires, but you are required to have your current address updated with the county in which your permit was issued.
The permit is still valid until it expires. After expiration, you would apply in the county in which you reside.
