On Thursday, January 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chesterfield Public Library at 50560 Patricia Avenue, the Chesterfield Historical Society will present author Alan Naldrett discussing his recent Arcadia book, Images of America: Chesterfield Township, with a slide show, including added pictures of the history of the New Baltimore Station, the New Haven depot’s name circa 1860. On Thursday, January 5, at 6:30 p.m. at the Chesterfield Public Library at 50560 Patricia Avenue, the Chesterfield Historical Society will have Dr. Patrick McClellan presenting his acclaimed program on Medicine in the 1800s. This very entertaining program will provide lots of information that will make you glad you weren't born back then. Dr. McClellan graduated from Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1964 and has run a family practice in Richmond, Michigan for 47 years. The Greater Clinton Township Historical Society, at their January 16, 2012 meeting, will host author James Tottis discussing his book on the History of Detroit’s Guardian Building.  This will be in the auditorium of the Clinton Macomb Library (at Romeo Plank and Canal). The program starts at 7 p.m.  Currently, Mr. Tottis is the Director of Collections of the Museum of New York.   He has taught at Wayne State University and served as curator for many years at the Detroit Institute of Arts.  He is the author of many books and publications about Detroit's rich history of art and architecture. For more information go to clintontwphistory.org or call (586) 286- 9173.

 

On Thursday, January 17, at 6:30 p.m., the Roseville Historical and Genealogical Society will host a presentation on the new Arcadia history book Italians in Detroit by the author, Armando Delicato. On Thursday, January 19, 2012, at 7p.m., the St. Clair Shores Genealogy Group will have a Genealogy Help Session, so "Bring your success stories, problems and search tips to share at this meeting. The latest genealogy news and updated websites will also be discussed." The meeting will be held in the St. Clair Shores Public Library's Local History Center. The Ray Township Historical Society will present their Mid-Winter Warm-Up Party on Saturday, January 28 from 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. at the Ray Township Senior Center. It will include Euchre, refreshments, a silent auction, and more!  Everyone is welcome; the donation is only $5.00.  Their website is www.rayhistory.org .

The Chesterfield Historical Society, whose website is at http://www.hsmichigan.org/chesterfieldhs/, will host Michael W. R. Davis presenting his latest book titled The St. Clair River on Thursday, March 1st, at 6:30 p.m. This photographic record of the St. Clair River relates the common historical experiences of the major communities along the American side of the waterway—from south to north, from New Baltimore to the St. Clair Flats, Algonac, Marine City, St. Clair, Marysville, and Port Huron. This is the sixth Arcadia volume authored by historian and journalist Michael W. R. Davis, who has lived in Michigan for more than 50 years but never, regretfully, on the beautiful St. Clair. Davis, holder of degrees from Yale and Eastern Michigan, is a retired Ford Motor Company public relations and marketing executive and a former executive director of the Detroit Historical Society. The program will be in the Chesterfield Public Library meeting room at 50560 Patricia Avenue.

On April 10, the Warren Genealogy Group will meet at 7:00pm in the Research Center of the Historical Gallery in the Warren Community Center, 5460 Arden, Warren, Michigan (West of Mound St. and South of 14 Mile Rd).   For more information, go to http://members.glis.net/whgs/ .

 

The Chesterfield Historical Society will host Bill Krul at the Chesterfield Library at 50560 Patricia in Chesterfield on Thursday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m.  He will discuss local history as part of the ongoing programs of Little Bit of History at the library. The Heritage Alliance of Macomb County, a meeting of all the historical groups of Macomb County, will have their annual meeting on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Richmond Community Center. The Richmond Historical and Genealogical Society are this year’s hosts.

The Ray Township Historical Society has been restoring the Lee Cemetery and will re-dedicate it in May.  Watch for the date, their website is www.rayhistory.org .

 

The Warren Historical and Genealogical Society will have an Open House at the Bunert One Room School House from 1:00pm-4:00pm on May 4. Bunert is located on Bunert St. (south of Martin Rd. between Schoenherr and Hayes). For more information, go to http://members.glis.net/whgs/ .

June

 

Sunday, June 24, is Log Cabin Day all over the state of Michigan. Historical societies with log cabins will have them open on this day, mostly from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.  This includes the Richmond Historical and Genealogical Society, The Chesterfield Historical Society, and the Greater Clinton Township Historical Society.

 

On Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10, the Chesterfield Historical Society will host the Ste. Claire Voyageurs Encampment in the Historical Village on Sugarbush next to the township offices.  For more information, go to http://www.hsmichigan.org/chesterfieldhs/ .

The Romeo Historical Society and the Washington Township Historical Society will have their cemetery walk on Saturday, October 6 which will focus on Civil War veterans for the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.  Tickets are available at Kane’s Town Hall Antiques at 205 N. Main Street in Romeo, 7 days a week. Prices are $9 per person, $5 RHS/WHS members, seniors and students.  The Clyde Craig Blacksmith Shop will be open also.  It is at 301 N. The Chesterfield Historical Society will have the Weller Schoolhouse open for Christmas caroling, cookies and more holiday fun on Friday, December 7 in the evening at the Chesterfield Twp. Tree Lighting Ceremony.  For more info go to http://www.hsmichigan.org/chesterfieldhs/
