The Board of Commissioners uses the committee system to bring recommendations before the Full Board each month for formal action. The board reorganized its committee structure for 2009. There are 13 standing committees, each of which are responsible for a particular area of county government. There are about 120 committee meetings annually and additional Ad Hoc Committee meetings when it is necessary to conduct an in-depth study on a specific issue. Actions by all committees are subject to the approval of the Full Board.
The public is invited to attend all committee meetings and the public is given an opportunity to speak at each meeting.
