Governments depend on a common set of base geographic information as a tool for economic and community development, land and natural resource management, and health and safety services. In order to provide this valuable and necessary information, Macomb County and SEMCOG have joined forces to create a digital aerial picture of our county as it appears currently.
The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments’ (SEMCOG) 2010 Regional Orthoimagery Project is a coordinated effort to acquire digital aerial orthoimagery during the spring of 2010. Macomb County has partnered with SEMCOG, its member counties of Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, St. Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne, along with Detroit Water and Sewer Department and the United States Geological Survey to share in the total cost of the project.
During the months of March and April digital aerial imagery was captured across the entire 4,600 square miles of project area. Initial imagery will be delivered to the project partners in the late summer. During the months of September and October each county partner will be responsible for quality assurance and quality control for their portion of the project area. During the winter of 2010 project partners will receive final delivery of the imagery from the vendor.
Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development will distribute the imagery to each of its local units of government and develop imagery products for sale during the 1st quarter of 2011.
Please visit the digital maps section of our website for information on other aerial imagery available for purchase from the department.
