The County received Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) applications from 21 participating communities, and members of MCPED staff are currently reviewing them. Some of the more common funding requests were for capital improvements (streets, sidewalks, sewers, parks, and senior buildings); a variety of human and homeless services, such as domestic violence and homelessness prevention; and strategic planning. Senior chore services and continuum of care services are examples of programs that a local agency, such as Macomb County Community Services Agency (MCCSA), could provide with this award.
The amount of funding that will be awarded varies by community and is based primarily on population, with the smallest grants being $33,000 and the largest being $190,000. Once reviewed, the applications will be incorporated into the County’s annual plan. They will then be forwarded to the Board of Commissioners for adoption and, if approved, to the Federal government on May 17. Funds should become available in July.
