Breaking ground in Sterling Heights for the Mounted Maneuver Collaboration Center
On November 9, officials from General Dynamics Land Systems gathered local, state and federal dignitaries to celebrate a groundbreaking for the defense supplier’s newly established Mounted Maneuver Collaboration Center in Sterling Heights.
The center is to be a fully equipped laboratory that will be used for product development for early concept analysis and testing of future military vehicles. It will facilitate collaboration with third party defense and automotive contractors, as well as the U.S. Army, Marines and Special Operations Forces.
Construction of the 22,000 square-foot center will begin shortly, and is scheduled to be completed by the end of next year. Located at the site of the GDLS campus on Mound Road, south of 17 Mile Road, the $8.5 million operation will be situated in what is the Central Sector of the Macomb County Defense Corridor.
The Department of Planning and Economic Development is a proud partner of GDLS, having provided the company with tax incentive and site development assistance for specific projects for more than a decade. The department is particularly excited that the Collaboration Center will serve as a key asset in support of the work being done by the many capable and committed engineering, R&D and manufacturing businesses that make the Macomb County Defense Corridor their home.
