Banquet center under construction in Shelby Township

Area residents will soon have another location to host their weddings, receptions, proms, and other special events – the 40,000-square-foot Palazzo Grande Banquet and Events Center at 54660 Van Dyke Avenue, south of 25 Mile Road in Shelby Township.

Construction began on the $9.5-million center in October 2007. The owners, James LaHood-Sarkis and Dominic Belcastro, have indicated that it is scheduled to open in May 2008. The center is expected to bring more than 100 jobs and added tax revenue to the Township. The upscale facility offers seating capacity for more than 1,000 people, four ballrooms with bay windows, bridal and VIP suites with plasma televisions, and a state-of-the-art kitchen. Visitors can also enjoy the elegance of a wrought-iron staircase, a waterfall in the Grand Corridor, a baby grand piano and imported marble and chandeliers.
