Economic Development in Action

AIM Plastics, Inc. of Clinton Township, Michigan is expanding their manufacturing operations with the assistance of tax-exempt bond financing secured through the Macomb County Economic Development Corporation with the assistance of the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development.
AIM is a producer of injection-molded plastic products. Craig Fisher, President, and James Jarrett, Vice President of AIM Plastics established the company, along with sister company, Accurate Injection Molds, Inc., in Clinton Township in 1994. At one time, AIM's customers were exclusively automotive suppliers. Today, the auto industry represents no more than one percent of their business. AIM's current customers include recognized industry-leaders, Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, and Stryker.
They will build a 28,000 square foot facility that will neighbor its headquarters on Starks Drive. The new facility will be entirely dedicated to the manufacture, assembly, and packaging of surgical devices. The building will feature a Class-1000 Clean Room and will be in full compliance with ISO 14644/Federal Standard 209E. Overall, this project represents a $5 million investment that will create up to 40 new jobs.
The success of AIM Plastics in adapting their capabilities to serve the health care industry helps to confirm that this type of manufacturing is right for Macomb County as predicted by the Targeted Industries Report. According to Bob Tess, Program Manager for the Economic Development Group, “Some of the most successful manufacturers that we work with are those who have been willing to diversify their expertise.”
