Living with Less: Adjusting to a Suddenly Reduced Income

This three-hour session will help you understand what happens in the first few months after an unplanned income loss.  We will discuss:

  • Recognizing the grief of the loss or change in lifestyle
  • How to reassess how money will be used by explaining spending patters, developing a spending plan and identifying family goals
  • Managing disagreements and conflicts over money

It is important to react to a sudden loss of income and make necessary financial changes in order to continue to move forward and not fall into debt.

This session is developed from the booklet "Adjusting to the Suddenly Reduced Income" by Sharon M. Danes, PhD and Patricia Steenme, MS from the University of Minnesota Extension Service.

Our mission: Michigan State University Extension (MSUE) helps people improve their lives through an educational process that applies knowledge to critical issues, needs and opportunities.
