The target audience for this 4-week training are elementary and middle school teachers, other youth programming staff (4-H Clubs, Scouts, YMCAs, Parks and Recreation programs, Community Centers, etc.) and their adult volunteers. Topics covered include plants and plant parts, seeds and germination, insects and diseases, and soil and water. Participants will learn about successful teaching techniques and program administration pointers, will receive a variety of youth gardening curricula, hands-on lessons, and information on website, print, and video resources, and will have the opportunity to connect with an existing youth gardening program. This program is offered annually each winter by the Extension 4-H and Horticulture Departments. Master Gardeners can receive credit for instructional hours and SB-CEUs for educators are pending.
