4-H Horse Program


4-H Horse Program

Committees:
Horse Program Committee: The Macomb County Horse Program Committee is made up of members, leaders and parents who are involved in the horse program.  There is a youth and adult executive board, with youth taking the lead at meetings and for activities. The committee meets once a month, September-October, and January-April.  All are welcome to attend meetings.

Mini/Draft Program Sub-committee:  All clubs with members who are registered with the horse program.  The committee determines the show schedule and bill and other dates specifically for these two areas.

    Events:

    County Point shows: The Horse Committee hosts three point shows for saddle or light horses, one a double judge show, in the spring and three mini/draft shows.  All shows are held at Camp Rotary, part of Wolcott Mill Metro Park, located on 29 Mile Road, east of Romeo Plank.

    State 4-H Horse Show:  Members have an opportunity to participate in the state show in the light horse program by earn points during the county point shows

     

    Forms:

    Registration: All youth planning to participate in the county mini/draft shows must be registered with Macomb County 4-H and the Horse Program.  Registration materials are due on or before May 1st.

    Armada Fair Horse Participation Form: Youth planning to show in the Armada Fair must fill out the participation form.

    Bill Collins Award Forms:  The Bill Collins Outstanding Horsemanship Award is given to a 4-H horse project member. It is awarded yearly and is based on the nominee’s overall involvement in 4-H and the 4-H Horse Program. A 4-H member to be considered for this award should be nominated by a 4-H leader. A summary of the nominee’s activities should include both the degree of involvement in and results of participation as a member of 4-H and the 4-H Horse Program. Forms are due the 1st Monday in November. 

    Jane Sylvester Award Forms Each Club registered in the Macomb County Horse & Pony Project may nominate up to 3 individuals for this award. Nominees may be any 4-H member or adult volunteer in the Macomb County 4-H Horse Project. Of the 3 individuals, only one may be a member of the club making the nomination. A single page letter of support (form attached) must accompany each nomination.  Forms are due the 1st Monday in November.

    Proud Equestrian Program

    The Michigan 4-H Proud Equestrian Program (PEP) is a therapeutic horse riding program designed to benefit handicapped riders physically, socially and emotionally.  Instructors are certified at the Cheff Center for the Handicapped in Augusta, Michigan, or through the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association.  Safety equipment and specially trained horses and volunteers are used in the program.

    The PEP Program is offered in both the spring and fall. Click here for a current program schedule.  In order to secure your spot, participant forms and payment must be submitted.  Register now.  Classes fill quickly!

    Rider Registration Forms

    Volunteers are welcome!  No horse experience needed-training provided. Help out in your community!  Help disabled youth gain a sense of achievement and raise their self-esteem.
