Youth Programming

Youth Programs are designed by Michigan State University Extension to assist children in making wise food choices. A nutrition instructor will work with the teacher and children on a series of fun activities.

Youth Programming

Programs are educational and fun. Children will learn about the food pyramid, what a 5-A-Day plan is, and all kinds of different food choices to meet their daily requirements.

Topics that will be discussed include:

  • Food Guide Pyramid
  • Breakfast Plans
  • 5-A-Day Plan
  • Proper Hand washing
  • Choosing Healthy Snacks
  • Food Safety

Curricula that are used to educate youth include Eating Right is Fun and Team Nutrition:
  • Eating Right is Fun is a joint project with the Food and Nutrition Department and the 4-H Department.
  • Team Nutrition is a national initiative designed to motivate, encourage, and empower schools, families, and the community to work together to continually improve school meals and to make food and physical activity choices for a healthy diet.  For more information on Team Nutrition, click here.

Call 586-469-6432 for more information.
Those individuals interested in Team Nutrition should speak with Eileen Haraminac..
