Judge Kathryn A. George
Macomb County Probate Court
Judge Kathryn A. George, was elected to the Macomb County Probate Court in November of 2002 in a countywide non-partisan election.
Before her election to the Probate Court, Judge George was elected to the Sterling Heights City Council in 1999. As the candidate with the highest number of votes in the 2001 re-elect she became the city’s mayor pro tem.
A graduate of the University of Idaho Law School in 1988, Judge George practiced law for sixteen years before her election to the Macomb County Probate Court. In 1989 she was appointed by the Governor to the Michigan Worker’s Compensation Appeal Board, serving in a quasi-judicial capacity.
Prior to becoming a practicing attorney, Judge George was a critical care nurse at hospitals in California, Michigan and the U.S. Embassy in Kuwait.
Judge George attended St. Clement in Center Line and Warren Woods High School and has lived in Sterling Heights for nineteen years.
Judge George has been honored by the Macomb County Bar Association for creating the Sterling Heights cable television program “Legally Speaking”, a partnership between the city and the Macomb County Bar Association to educate citizens about legal matters.
In 2007, Judge George was inducted into the Macomb County Hall of Fame for her dedication, service and outstanding contributions to Macomb County and its citizens.
The Michigan Probate Judges Association appointed Judge George to serve as the probate judge liaison to the Probate Section of the State Bar of Michigan. She was elected to the Michigan Probate Judges Association Executive Board by the probate judges and elected to act as council member of the Probate and Estate Planning Council of the state bar.
Judge George has been active with Selfridge Air National Guard Base Community Council, Macomb County Probate Bar Association, Ukrainian-American Bar Association, Macomb Literacy Partners and the Macomb Bar Foundation.
Judge George is also active with the Girl Scouts of America and has written several articles for nursing magazines and other periodicals.
Judge George has been honored by the Army National Guard for her support of the soldiers and their families in the Michigan National Guard. She has also received awards from the Macomb County Bar Association and Macomb County Probate Bar Association for her contributions to the communities.
