Celebrate National County Government Month April 2010

In recognition of April as National County Government Month, Macomb County will highlight some aspects of its departments and services on this special page.
Be sure to check back often as we rotate the spotlight between several sets of county departments. Items included offer only a very small snapshot of the many services the departments offer and should not be considered a full representation. Note that special emphasis was put on innovation or creative ways the department continued to provide services in challenging economic times, energy saving or environmentally responsible practices that were implemented and advancements using technology and/or collaboration between departments or with other organizations.

The Risk Management Department is responsible for evaluating potential liability exposures, county facility emergency evacuations, and safety risks.
Macomb County Reference & Research
The Macomb County Reference & Research Center promotes the intellectual development of all county residents by providing access to cultural, educational, recreational, and information resources that enhance the quality of life. The Center provides services to the general public, government agencies, the business and economic community, and local libraries.
Macomb County Community Corrections is a community-based sanction and rehabilitative program aimed at relieving prison and jail overcrowding through Court-approved sentencing alternatives.
The Facilities & Operations Department is responsible for the daily operations and maintenance of all general fund, county-owned facilities, and building security. This department also oversees the construction of all county facilities and all related capital improvements.
The Public Works Commissioner is responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the county's 750 drains. He also manages the Macomb County Wastewater Disposal District, which provides sewer service through Detroit for 11 county communities.
Macomb/St. Clair County Employment Training Agency (M/SCETA)
The purpose of M/SCETA is to ensure the delivery of services and programs that identify and determine eligibility of displaced workers and those with barriers to employment. Also, to assist with employment training needs, increase employability skills, and provide resources and referrals to address barriers to employment so workers may enter/reenter the local job market in growth occupations. Last year this department increased our training enrollments by 100 percent.

Formerly National County Government Week, the designation was expanded to an entire month in 2010 to encourage and allow for increased participation.
