Booster Seats.

More than a good idea -- it's the law!

As of July 1, 2008, all children in Michigan under age 8 or under 4'9" tall must be restrained in an appropriate car seat or booster seat while in a vehicle.  Seat belts are designed for adults, but booster seats can make seat belts fit children properly4 year old properly restrained in a booster seat. and significantly reduce the risk of injury in a crash.  All booster seats are designed to be used with a vehicle's lap and shoulder belt.

To get answers to frequently asked questions regarding booster seats, visit our Booster Seat Web Page.  Included on the web page are printable flyers in English, Spanish and Arabic.

The Macomb County Health Department has two Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians that can help answer your car seat or booster seat questions or provide car seat inspections.  To speak with a Technician, please call (586) 412-3398 or (586) 412-3391.

                       Medication Collection

Recently, the Associated Press released a report, which found that low concentrations of prescription drugs and over the counter medications have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas throughout the country, including Detroit.

Contributing to the problem is the disposal dilemma faced by residents who want to safely dispose of unwanted medications without flushing them down the drain.

The Macomb County Health Department began accepting unwanted and outdated medications, from Macomb County residents, for safe and secure disposal several years ago.  To date, over 1,400 pounds of pharmaceutical wastes have been collected

Controlled substances and syringes will not be accepted.  Patient information must be removed from containers and it is recommended that medications be taken out of the pill bottles and transferred into zip lock bags prior to delivery.

Macomb County residents are encouraged to deliver their unwanted medications to the Health Department at 43525 Elizabeth Road in Mt. Clemens Monday through Friday between 8:30am and 5:00pm.
