Education and Training

 

 

The Macomb County Health Department offers a variety of educational tools and material to increase consumer and food service personnel knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation practices.

 

Food Service Manager Certification Course

The course is designed to provide the food service professional with training in food safety principles,  foodborne illness prevention and proper sanitation practices.  Classroom training prepares the individual to take the ANSI accredited exam, given at the end of the course, which leads to nationally recognized certification. Successful completion also fulfills the certified manager requirement of the Macomb County Food Safety Training Regulation.

THE NEXT SCHEDULED CERTIFICATION COURSE MEETS:

         

Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2008                          1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

& Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008                   1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

&  Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008                   1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Exam:  Thursday, Sept.18, 2008             1:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

at Freedom Hill County Park located at 15000 Metropolitan Parkway, Sterling Heights

A re-certification course is also offered to individuals who have a certificate that will be expiring and would like a refresher before taking the exam again.   Individuals preferring to re-take the exam without the refresher training may do so by registering for the exam only.

Training Tapes

Video tapes on a variety of different topics are available through the department's lending library located at the Mt. Clemens Health Center.

Food Scoop Newsletter

 A newsletter produced by the department is sent out quarterly to all licensed food service establishments in Macomb County. Newsletter topics include food safety issues and tips, regulatory requirements and emerging issues.

Educational Pamphlets and Brochures

The department has a variety of printed material that cover safe food handling, sanitation, utility outages, pest control, etc. Printed material is available at all Environmental Health Services offices.
