Our Mission
Our mission is to empower Macomb County seniors through advocacy and education.
History
Macomb County Senior Citizen Services began as a County funded entity in 1968. Before that time, it was the St. Clair Shores Council on Aging, a small senior center. Through the efforts of Elizabeth Lewis who advocated at the state and local levels, the community became aware of issues of the County’s aging population. Through the vision of Ms. Lewis and a group of concerned citizens, the Macomb County Board of Commissioners established a senior citizen department.
Today, the department no longer is a recreational activity senior center, but an agency that addresses human service needs. Since 1968, the department has seen many changes in the aging field, but has continued to support senior citizens in the community through ever-changing programs that meet the senior population's needs.
