According to the 2000 Census, there were over 10,000 grandchildren in Macomb County living with their grandparents. To meet the needs of this population, the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program was created. The program began in 1997 and has benefited hundreds of grandparents. The program is open to any non-parent relative caregivers who live in

Macomb County.

The goals of the program are to:

• Help grandparents and other relative caregivers build better relationships with children in their care.
• Support the commitment to kinship care
• Provide resources to help grandparents meet the needs of their grandchildren

The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program offers support groups, informational presentations, recreational activities and respite opportunities. Professional Counseling Services are also available through the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program
